The IT Quiz is open to teams of all undergraduate and higher diploma students of any of the nine institutions. Students can form teams of up to five members from different academic programs and different institutions. Any three members will appear in each round of the Quiz.

The teams participate on their own behalf and do not represent any one institution.

The Quiz will be conducted in three rounds. The first round will be held on March 27, 2001 to determine ten semi-finalist teams. The semi-final round will be held on June 2, 2001. Both rounds will be conducted on the web in two halves of 10-minutes each at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The best five teams of the semi-final round will enter the final round in person.

The final round will be moderated in person on a first-respond-first-answer basis on June 11, 2001 at the award presentation ceremony.

Questions of the first two rounds will be selected from designated question banks of major publishers that will be announced to the contestants. All teams have to answer as many questions as they can within the 20 minutes on the web and the ten teams with the highest scores will enter the semi-final round. Five teams with the highest scores in the semi-final round will enter the final round.

All teams will carry the score they earned in the semi-final round to enter into the final round. The final round will be conducted in person to answer questions raised by a moderator on a first-respond-first-answer basis. Points will be deducted for wrong answers.
